United Way Finalist
Newton-Conover City Schools has it's very first recipient as a car-drawing finalist!!!!  Carol Johnson, Kindergarten teacher at Shuford Elementary, had her name drawn out from the entire Catawba County United Way campaign drawing.  Those whose names are drawn will go to Paramount KIA on December 11th and each will be given a car key.  If they hold the one that unlocks the door to the give-away car, they win!  Congratulations to Carol Johnson, we hope you go all the way with this. Good Luck!​

Super Kid to the Super Bowl!!
The NFL Play 60 Movement is holding a contest to send one lucky kid to the Super Bowl this year in Arizona!! One Grand Prize winner will be selected from a combination of all NFL team’s networks to run the Super Bowl game ball onto the field to help kick off Super Bowl XLIX and we want that Super Kid to represent the Carolina Panthers! 

If you are the Grand Prize Winner, you will be named a NFL PLAY 60 Ambassador and will receive a 7-day/6-night trip for four (4) to Glendale, AZ, including air transportation, hotel accommodations, and four (4) tickets to Super Bowl XLIX!

Donors Choose
Ms. Hoyle's 3rd grade class received books and tables from the online charity Donors Choose.  The website allowed Ms. Hoyle to post her classroom project request on their site.  The project was then funded by donors and shipped to our school.

National Milk Day
Wednesday, September 24th was National Milk Day.  To celebrate our school's cafeteria supplied milk mustaches for each child in our school.

Cookie Dough & More Fundraiser Kickoff
On Tuesday, September 23rd, Mr. Scott visited our school for our annual Cookie Dough & More Fundraiser kickoff.  This year we have a huge selection of items for purchase to help raise money for our school including: cookies, cheesecakes, pizza, soups and even a no calorie magazine subscription option.

Money must be collected when an order is placed.  Both the order forms and funds are due on Tuesday, October 7th.  Make checks payable to Shuford Elementary.  Products are to be delivered to the school Thursday, October 23rd.


Please remember, students should never go door-to-door by themselves!

International Day of Peace
Shuford celebrates the International Day of Peace, on Monday September, 22nd, by placing Pinwheels for Peace on our front lawn.  The pinwheel’s design represents the students’ thoughts and feelings about peace, anti-bullying and non-violence.  Our art installation hopes to inspires a public reflection on peace.

Talk Like a Pirate Day

Ahoy matey!  Ship Shuford celebrated Talk Like a Pirate Day, Friday, September 19.  Everyone in the school, including staff, were invited to dress up like pirates!

The Treasure Trove of Conservation Cove: A Pirate’s Tale
The National Theatre for Children visited our school, on Tuesday, September 16th, to perform The Treasure Trove of Conservation Cove: A Pirate’s Tale, sponsored by Duke Energy.  Our students were lead through a fun pirate treasure hunt, while learning about resources and energy conservation.  Our students and staff also have the opportunity to receive their own energy conservation kits to put their energy saving skills to use at home.

Grandparent's Day Lunch
Our annual Grandparent's Day Lunch was held the week of September 8th.  We saw many beautiful, smiling faces in our school cafeteria this week.  We hope our grandparents enjoyed their special day!

Box Tops for Education/Labels for Education
Welcome to an exciting year at Shuford Elementary School!  This year, our school will be again participating in both the Box Tops for Education program and the Labels for Education program.

This is how we need your help:
 
1.       CLIP the box tops & labels for education (forms will be sent home with your child)
2.       PASTE them to the appropriate sheets provided (double check the expiration date, please).  Make sure your students name and class is on each form so he/she can receive a prize on collection day.
3.       SEND them to school with your student on collection day.
 
Thank you so much for your support.  Together we can raise "Free" money to help purchase more materials and technology to better our children's education here at Shuford.
 
COLLECTION dates can be found on the website calendar. 

REWARDS FOR TOP COLLECTORS
 
-Each student will get a prize from the Prize Box for turning his/her collection sheets in on collection day which will be approximately once a month. (Limited to one prize per student)
 
-In December, the top 3 individual collectors & the top class will get to have a Pizza Party with Mr. Nelson.
 
-In May, the top 3 individual collectors & the top class will get to Jump in a Bounce House.
