Congratulations to Kathryn Grandgenett, ESL teacher at Shuford Elementary, for being selected to participate in the Governor’s Teacher Network, (GTN) a Race to the Top-funded initiative operated in partnership by the Office of Governor Pat McCrory and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

This initiative, will provide a statewide platform for teachers to share their best work around instruction and professional development and help advance Race to the Top (RttT) funded educational remodeling efforts across the state.

Through the GTN, approximately 450 teachers from across North Carolina will serve for one year as instructional and professional development coaches and facilitators. Network Teachers remain in their current roles but will also work to gain a deeper understanding of the State's RttT-funded work in one of two "pathways," both related to the establishment of Home Base.

Amber's Army
One of our Shuford families need your support! Mrs. Blackwelder's sister, Amber Davis, was diagnosed recently with a rare form of cervical cancer. Amber's son is in Ms. Yang's kindergarten class at Shuford. Noah has a younger sister, Nora, and a younger brother, Reid.

To help offset some of the medical expenses, the family is selling t-shirts and bracelets. If you are interested in buying either of these, you may contact Mrs. Blackwelder or Mrs. Templeton. There is an order form in the office and you can give your money to Mr. Farley. Shirts are $15 for all sizes (adult small, medium, large, and x-large, youth small, medium and large). 2X is also available, for $17. Bracelets are $3 each.

You can also keep with with Amber's progress through the Facebook page.

The family is so grateful for the love and support that has already been shown throughout the community!
